Monday 17th December

In today's class we looked briefly at the progress tests - in general you all did well although some of you need to review vocabulary.  There were also some problems with "wishes"  so we are going to look again at this next lesson.

We also looked at entertainment adjectives and we talked about films to practice this vocabulary.  Finally we looked at some grammar: so, such, as, like and such as.
The homework for today is:
  • Read Student's book page 144 G8.1 and review wishes - especially if you having problems with this.

Wednesday 12th December

Hi,

In today's class we did a progress test - reviewing the material we covered in unit 8 - I will mark the tests and give them back to you on Monday.

We also looked at some vocabulary:  verbs which are easily confused and adverbs which are easily confused.

Great to see you all using these words correctly - I will be listening out for mistakes over the coming weeks.

Don't forget that your homework is to check you know the meaning of the adjectives at the top of page 80 in student's book and to think of a film, T.V programme, or T.V series for each adjective.  On Monday, we will be looking at these adjectives in more detail.

Have a nice weekend!  Keep warm!

Obama's victory speech

I was speaking to some of you a few weeks ago about Obama's victory speech. Take a look at it here on You Tube:

If you are interested at looking at the speech more carefully, you can also print out the transcript:   http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/07/us/politics/transcript-of-president-obamas-election-night-speech.html?pagewanted=all

Post your opinions about Obama's speech and respond to your classmates comments:
Some things to think about:

Did you find it easy to understand or were there lots of words you didn't understand?
Did you like the speech?
Is it very different to a political speech here in Spain?
Can you imagine a Spanish politician talking about his family and his dog!?
Do you like Obama?....

(See student's book page 75.)

Homework is the workbook 8C (if you haven't already done it) and also to complete the preparation sheet for the written project (if you haven't already done it).

If you are interested in looking at more vocabulary differences between British and American English, the following website lists many of the common differences:

See you all on Wednesday.

Welcome!

Hi class,

I have set up this class blog to:

  • review what we did in class and to post the homework for those who didn't come to class
  • to post some useful links and materials
  • so that you can practice writing English and give your opinions by contributing to some topics  - but in English PLEASE!!!
Remember this is your space - so you are free to write your own comments and add to the blog in any way you think will be useful and interesting to you and your class mates.

I hope it's useful!
